Hourly rate

The 2021 figures are based on 1,055 CBC employees (including casuals) as at 31 March 2021 –536 (50.8%) were men, 519 (49.2%) were women.

Pay quartiles

These split the total number of staff into 4 groups, from highest to lowest earners:

  • Of the 264 employees in the top quartile, 117 are male (44.3%) and 147 are female (55.68%).
  • Of the 264 in the upper middle quartile, 130 are male (49.2%) and 134 are female (50.8%).
  • Of the 263 in the lower middle quartile, 160 are male (60.8%) and 103 are female (39.2%).
  • Of the 264 employees in the lower quartile, 129 are male (48.9%) and 135 are female (51.4%).

Bonus pay

  • This is mainly a small performance payment to waste and recycling staff (in the lower pay quartiles) in return for ‘no annual leave, no sickness absence’ over Christmas and New Year.
  • Women earned £1 for every £1 that men earned when comparing median bonus pay.
  • Long service awards are defined as a bonus: CBC recognises the commitment of its employees to public service with £250 vouchers for employees achieving 25 years’ service.
