Report insects from a business

How insect complaints are assessed

If insects from a nearby business are affecting your home or garden, you can report the problem to us.

Businesses that are often sources of insects include:
  • farms
  • sewage treatment works
  • manure or silage storage areas
  • animal or poultry houses
  • landfill sites, tips and waste transfer stations
If you want help dealing with insects that are not coming from a business, such as ants, cockroaches or wasps, you should contact our pest control service.

What happens next

When you make a complaint, an officer will visit the premises to make an assessment.

You may be asked to keep a record of the problem by completing the diary record sheets.

We will then decide if the problem is a statutory nuisance and advise the owner on any action they should take.

If we find that the problem is a statutory nuisance, an abatement notice can be served. Anyone who continues to break the law can be fined.
