Notice of parliamentary election for the Colchester constituency

  1.  An election is to be held for one member of Parliament for the Colchester Constituency.
  2. Forms of nomination for the parliamentary election may be obtained from Colchester Town Hall, High Street, Colchester, CO1 1PJ, from the Acting Returning Officer who will prepare, on request, a nomination paper for signature during the times stated below.
  3. Nomination papers must be delivered in person to the Acting Returning Officer, Colchester Town Hall, High Street, Colchester, CO1 1PJ, on any day after the date of this notice between 10am and 4pm, but no later than 4pm on Friday 07 June 2024.
  4. The required deposit of £500 may be made either by legal tender, electronic bank transfer or by means of a banker’s draft from a bank which carries on business in the United Kingdom.
  5. If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday 04 July 2024.
  6. The last day to submit an application to be included on the electoral register to be used at this election is 12 midnight on Tuesday 18 June 2024. Applications to vote can be made online.
  7.  For electors voting in polling stations there is a legal requirement to take photographic identification to vote. A full list of the photographic identification is available on the Colchester City Council website. For those who require a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector Document to meet the requirement for photographic identification, applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector Document can be made online.
  8. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024. Applications of postal votes can be made online.
  9. New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. Applications to vote by proxy can be made online.
  10. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election applied for on grounds of a medical emergency or because of work/service reasons (occurring after 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024) or acceptable photographic identification that you were going to use to vote has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed, or has not yet been received (if applied for recently) must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Thursday 04 July 2024.
