Overview
Recycling and waste collections are changing across Colchester from June 2026. The rollout will be completed by March 2027.
Most properties that currently put bags out at the kerbside will move to a wheeled bin service for recycling and non-recyclable waste. Properties that are not suitable for wheeled bins will continue to use bags in line with our collection policy.
From 1 June 2026, every household will have a new recycling and waste collection calendar. Many residents will also have a different collection day.
Some areas will move to the new wheeled bin service earlier than others, with the full rollout completed by March 2027.
Residents living in flats with communal bin stores will also receive changes, including new mixed recycling and food waste collections introduced in early 2026.
