Location and opening times

The main entrance to Castle Park is located at the east end of Colchester High Street next to the Castle. There are a number of other entrances including those on St Peter's Street, Roman Road, Museum Street and on Riverside Walk.

By road: parking is available with a charge at any of the city's car parks. The nearest car parks are Nunn's Road, Priory Street and Osborne Street.  Follow city centre signage to the High Street and Castle Park.

By bus: a number of buses stop on the High Street.

By bike: cycling is only allowed along the designated cycle path that runs beside the river in Lower Castle Park.

Opening times

The park is open everyday but is locked in the evening, and some parts of the park may be closed to the general public during events. Toilets will close 1 hour before the park and 
access will be restricted 30 minutes before the published closing time.
  • 1 January to 28 February: 5pm
  • 1 March to 31 March: 6.15pm
  • 1 April to 30 September: 9pm
  • 1 October to 28 October: 6.15pm
  • 29 October to 31 December: 5pm

From 6 December until 24 December the Park will close at 4pm for the Enlightened light trail event.

Dogs are only allowed in the Lower Park and must be kept under close control.
