Cutting costs at home

Ways to save water

  • Shorten your shower:

The average length of time spent in the shower is typically 8 minutes. Showers can use a lot of energy and water, so for every minute you cut off your shower you could save £75 a year*.

Cold showering is also a way to save energy and provides many health benefits.
  • Use cold water when waiting for the tap to heat up:

Use the excess cold water for watering plants or filling water bottles for example.
  • Don’t overfill pans with water:

When boiling vegetables or other foods, you only need to make sure they are just covered with water.
  • Consider washing your car less:

Washing the car can use a lot of water, so washing it less frequently could save you money on your water bill.
