Safety rules for outdoor spaces
We want you to enjoy your visit and be as safe as possible. Whilst in our open spaces we ask you to observe the following safety rules:
- Dogs are welcome in most Colchester City controlled parks, there are some places where they are not allowed or must be kept on a lead. These are clearly indicated within each area and are usually ecologically sensitive sites, deer parks, children's play areas, restaurants, cafes and sports areas.
- The Health Act requires enclosed or mostly enclosed parts of premises that are public places or workplaces to be smoke-free. Signs are clearly displayed where smoking is allowed.
- Alcoholic drinks must be available free of charge (not for sale), and for your own/private consumption. Alcohol must only be available to those over the age of 18.
- We ask that you are considerate to others if playing music, this includes the residents in nearby houses.
- Use plastic or paper cups and bottles where possible. Broken glass is a hazard to other visitors and wildlife and very difficult to remove safely.
- Remember before you leave to collect your litter to take home with you and recycle where possible.
- Do not leave any items unattended at any time, both to protect your items from theft and to prevent them causing a possible security alert.
- Littering and dog fouling are strictly forbidden in all public spaces.
- The use of any illegal substance is strictly forbidden in all public spaces.
- The use of BBQ’s or any form of cooking is not permitted in any Colchester City Council controlled green open space.
- Alcohol is not permitted within a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) restricted area. These are clearly indicated within each area.
- Abusive or threating behaviour in any form will not be tolerated and will be reported to the police.
- Drones are not permitted within the park at any time.
