Electric council vehicles to reduce carbon emissions

Seventeen new electric and four hybrid vehicles will join our fleet – showing our continued commitment to tackling the climate emergency we are facing.

We plan to purchase the first of these new vehicles in the autumn as the initial phase of our strategy to move to an entirely net carbon zero fleet by 2030.

The electric vehicles would replace those used by several of our teams, including the neighbourhood wardens, pest control and helpline services.

In total, this will help us save around 8,000 litres of fuel every year - the equivalent of not driving 422,500 miles per year in the average petrol car.

To support these changes, electric charging points are going to be installed at our Rowan House offices in Sheepen Road for our vehicles.
