Simpler Recycling

What is Simpler Recycling?

As part of the Environment Act 2021, from 1 April 2025, all businesses and other non-household premises with 10 or more full-time employees must separate paper and card, plastic, glass, metals (cans, tins and foil), and food waste from non-recyclable waste. This saves valuable resources from going to waste and supports the circular economy.

By 31 March 2025, you will need to have arrangements in place for separate waste collections from a licensed waste collection service for all the following materials that your business generates:

  • Non-recyclable waste
  • Food
  • Recycling:
    • Glass
    • Plastics
    • Tins, Cans and Aerosols
  • Paper and Card Recycling will need to be kept separate from non-recyclable waste, food and other dry recyclable streams

How can we help?

Colchester City Council’s business waste team will be able to provide a fully compliant, containerised service for all waste streams from 1 February 2025.

Request a free waste audit with one of our team to explain the changes and provide a competitive and compliant quote for your business.
