Iron Latch Wood Local Wildlife Site-Spring Wildlife Walk

Join the Ranger and Colchester Natural History Society to look for returning migrant birds, we hope to find Nightingale amongst other species. This 15-hectare site is primarily secondary broadleaf woodland with numerous ephemeral waterbodies. It is a ‘Local Wildlife Site’ and was a receptor site for Great Crested Newts from the nearby development. The central area was quarried in the past, leaving an interesting topography with high and low areas, now wet woodland. The site is adjacent to the Essex Wildlife Trust site Iron Latch Nature Reserve a coppice woodland and grassland meadow with orchids, glowworm and numerous butterfly species. Come join us to help discover what visits this wood in springtime. Bring any Field Guides & ID books.

Event is weather dependant, please wear appropriate footwear for rough ground.

Location: End of Iron Latch Lane CO3 0JT.
