Your stories – Lisa Hinman

Lisa Hinman
Operations Manager for North Essex Parking Partnership

How long have you worked for the council?

I have worked for the council for just over 20 years.

Why did you choose to work for the council?

I had heard it was a workplace where you could develop and further your career and it is true. When I joined the council, I was a Civil Enforcement Officer and now I lead the whole team of officers.

Describe what you do in 100 words

I lead the team of Civil Enforcement Officers that work for North Essex Parking Partnership (which is led by Colchester City Council). Our aim is to ensure the flow of traffic as safely as possible to assist all residing and visiting the areas we patrol these include Uttlesford, Braintree, Harlow, Epping, Colchester and Tendring.

Sadly, part of my role involves supporting officers who are frequently abused verbally and sometimes physically whist carrying out their duties, however they continue to conduct their roles to provide this important service to the communities. I work with a great bunch of dedicated people and if you see any of us out and about, please say hello, a friendly face is very valued by all of our team.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The diversity of each day and the ability to have a positive impact on our service.

Throughout your career at the council, what has been your most rewarding moment?

It is difficult to pick one as there have been many, I think the times that someone has really appreciated the effort I have put in to assist them, be they a member of the public, or a colleague within our team.

What would you say to someone thinking about a career at the council?

Go for it, you have nothing to lose.

Describe the council in one word
