This map shows the twenty-seven wards of the Borough of Colchester The main central map (pictured right) shows the twenty-seven wards of the Borough of Colchester.

Initially, each ward is colour-coded in four classes to show the geographical distribution of the Borough's population, ranging from dark orange for wards with larger populations and pale cream for wards with smaller populations. A key in the lower left corner of the page shows the upper limits of each class.

The histogram below the map shows the population totals for each ward in order of size.

Moving your mouse over the main map or histogram will highlight the areas you pass over. When a ward is highlighted in green its corresponding bar in the histogram will also be highlighted (and vice versa), and the ward name will be displayed below the map along with the exact population figure. In addition, an ethnicity pie chart and population pyramid will change to display the population structure of the highlighted ward.

Use the drop-down menu to map the geographical distribution of further census variables Use the thumbnail image in the top left of the page (Map Navigator) to zoom in and out of the main map by clicking the magnifier icons. Then pick up and drag the transparent grey square to change the map's extent.
