Aerobics class at Colchester Leisure WorldSituated in Essex, in the east of England, the borough of Colchester covers an area of approximately 125 square miles. It encompasses the town of Colchester and the surrounding small towns and villages, the largest of which are Tiptree, West Mersea and Wivenhoe. The 2001 Census reported a population of 155,796 and it is estimated that it will grow by 20,000 over the next 15 years.

Sport and Leisure plays an important part in the lifestyles of the people in the borough. We have some excellent facilities from which a number of programmes and activities take place, whether you require a leisurely swim, an energetic game of squash or holiday activities for your children through to supporting elite performers trained by professional coaches. There is something for everyone.

The Sport and Leisure team at Colchester Borough Council is part of Leisure Services. Our aim is: "By working together we will provide high quality, affordable and accessible sporting provision in Colchester so that every resident and visitor to the Borough has the opportunity to take part in their chosen sporting activity". We recognise that the private and voluntary sectors play an important role in delivering this aim and as such we work in partnership with many organisations that have an interest in sport and leisure.
We are committed to:
  • Putting customers first and at the heart of what we do
  • Developing services that improve the quality of life, health and well being of both the people of Colchester and visitors to the area
  • Providing opportunities for all to farily and equitably participate in the cultural and leisure activities of their choice
  • Setting out clear standards for services so that our customers know the quality of service that they can expect
  • Finding sustainable solutions in everything that we do so that ambitions and expectations are met
  • Investing in and developnig our staff so that they can excel in their jobs
