Introduction to Sport and Leisure in Colchester
Date Published: 19 May 2008
Situated in Essex, in the east of England, the borough of Colchester covers an area of approximately 125 square miles. It encompasses the town of Colchester and the surrounding small towns and villages, the largest of which are Tiptree, West Mersea and Wivenhoe. The 2001 Census reported a population of 155,796 and it is estimated that it will grow by 20,000 over the next 15 years. Sport and Leisure plays an important part in the lifestyles of the people in the borough. We have some excellent facilities from which a number of programmes and activities take place, whether you require a leisurely swim, an energetic game of squash or holiday activities for your children through to supporting elite performers trained by professional coaches. There is something for everyone.
