Colchester Waterways

Colchester Borough Council welcomes everyone to use the waters for their recreational activities in a safe way, and be considerate to other users and wildlife who use the waterways.

The Council works in Partnership with Essex Marine Police and Brightlingsea Harbour to make the area safe for people to use.

The document below shows the speed limits around the Mersea Island (Blackwater Estuary) and the River Colne for all water craft from engine to sailing craft.

If you see activity on the water that is a cause for concern for Public Safety then the Police should be contacted if in emergency on 999.  If the incident is not or an emergency nature but you feel that the issue needs reporting contact101.

With regard the management of the water the Council contact is steve.collis@colchester.gov.uk
