Residents and business-owners are being called upon to join forces in a collaborative effort to revitalise Osborne St, Queen St, St Botolph’s Street and St Botolph’s Priory, during a city centre Day of Action, taking place Monday, 20 May.
The day aims to tackle various points of concern such as litter, street cleaning and maintaining street furniture. Participation in the Day of Action is more than just litter picking – it’s also a great way to instil a sense of pride and ownership in our community.
Residents and business owners are invited to join in and transform their environment. Council staff will be present to assist with clean-up efforts, while also offering support and advice on various topics like living expenses, council tax, and street-related concerns.

Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Waste, said: “Community involvement is crucial when it comes to maintaining areas of the city. Although we have a thorough maintenance programme in place, communities can make a huge difference too. These activities do not replace our maintenance schedules but make a special contribution to support them.
“All the areas we will tackle on these action days will come from residents’ own suggestions. We are listening to your concerns and continuing to work tirelessly to make a real difference to the lives of people across the city.”
Residents don’t need to wait for a day of action to take pride in their local area. Join the growing team of Litter Warriors who are committed to picking litter in their local communities on a regular basis.
Litter Warriors is a Colchester City Council initiative to support and enable local communities to help maintain a clean and green Colchester by litter picking an area of open space or street that’s important to you. This may be the street you live in, your favourite park or open space. Simply sign up via the council’s website and we’ll provide you with all the equipment you need.
Litter Warriors is also a great way to bring families, friends, and neighbours together and maintain pride in your local neighbourhood. Residents can also report street problems including litter, graffiti, fly-tipping and dog fouling here.
