Housing Needs Surveys

Date Published: 29 May 2007

The Housing Needs Survey provides key estimates on the numbers and types of households in housing need in the borough, and how the levels of housing are likely to change in the future. It also analyses the supply of affordable housing to determine the requirement for new affordable housing. The survey also provides details of which types of affordable housing can or cannot meet housing need in the borough of Colchester.

Strategic Housing Market Assessment 2007

Colchester, Braintree and Chelmsford councils have jointly been undertaking a Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) and a Housing Needs Survey (HNS).  We are seeking to better understand how much new market housing and affordable housing is needed across the three districts.

The SHMA includes involving a cross section of stakeholders in considering what is happening across the three housing markets.  The first stakeholders' meeting was held in Chelmsford in March to discuss some key questions and issues.

This newsletter provides a summary of that event and an overview of the process we intend to go through to develop a robust and accessible Housing Needs Survey and Housing Market Assessment.

Click here to read the SHMA  newsletter and, if you would like to offer further comment or feedback or have any questions, contact details are included at the end.
