Major Incident EmergencyDate Published: 15 April 2008 At a local authority it is our role to support the emergency services in the case of a major emergency incident. The Council prepares and maintains contingency plans to assist it in its response to major civil emergencies, such as large scale chemical releases, serious and widespread flooding and other hazardous occurrences. The Council considers the maintenance of the health, safety and welfare of those who live in, work in or have resort to the Borough, together with an unpolluted environment as a principal corporate commitment. Day-to-day working practices have been evolved which enable and encourage everyone to enjoy the facilities of the Borough in as safe an environment as possible. It is hoped by strategic planning and enforcement of legislation potential hazards have been identified and the risk negated. The Council however, is not complacent and recognises that a major emergency could occur anywhere within the Borough with little or no warning. Business Continuity Advice The council has produced easy to follow guidance on Business Continuity for the Small and Medium size businesses. Contact Information For further information please telephone 01206 282660. Please DO NOT use this number to report a major emergency-inform the emergency services on 999.
