Mayor Plants Oak Tree for Diamond Jubilee
The Mayor of Colchester, Cllr Helen Chuah, will be planting an oak tree on Monday 6th February to mark the accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II.
The tree, a Pin Oak (Quercus palustris) will be planted at 10.45am in Castle Park. This species has been selected as it is known for its beautiful autumn colour and in its planting position will provide a good spectacle and contrast to the other trees in the area.
This is one of many celebrations Colchester Borough Council will be undertaking to mark Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The Mayor of Colchester, Cllr Helen Chuah, said 'I am honoured to be planting this tree in celebration of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee. This tree will be enjoyed by many people for many years to come and will stand proudly in our beautiful and award-winning Castle Park'.
Other Diamond Jubilee celebrations will include floral displays later in the year and the lighting of a Beacon on Monday 4th June.
