Diamond Jubilee Commemorated Through Dedication and Re-naming of Field

To mark the accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II and to show support for The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, a bench will be formally unveiled on Monday 6th February. The new bench at the Monkwick Open Space will celebrate the dedication of this field and commemorate its renaming to the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Fields. The occasion will be marked with an engraved plaque on the bench. The unveiling will be attended by ward Councillor Dave Harris and Parks and Recreation staff.

The bench will be situated on a footpath facing the adiZone - another 2012 legacy that will be enjoyed by users of the field for many years to come. The unveiling will be attended by ward Councillor Dave Harris and Parks and Recreation staff.

Cllr Tina Dopson, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Diversity said 'Colchester has so much to be proud of and the dedication of this field will secure future enjoyment of our green spaces. We have nominated other fields too and are proud to be supporting the national challenge to protect 2,012 outdoor recreational spaces by the end of 2012 to build a legacy from the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games'.
