    The FSA was formed so that one single organisation deals with food law enforcement. It advises the government on food issues but is nor responsible to them and can therefore act on issues of public safety in relation to food with consumer interests being the prime consideration. Another of their roles is to monitor and direct the meat hygiene service and local government in their food enforcement activity. They truly deal with food from ''Farm to Fork''.

The organisation represents local authority and consumer interests on many working parties and government initiatives. It has formed several advisory groups who offer suggestions on enforcement issues relating to trading standards and food, once these are agreed LACORS issues ''Good Practice'' guidance to enforcers.

The CIEH represents the profession on many working groups and government bodies, it is involved in many third world countries' development schemes. There is a commercial section which undertakes various activities such as printing, seminar and conference staging and provision of various qualification courses.
