Litter

Litter poses serious social, economic and environmental costs. Colchester's Street Care team clean up, enforce, manage and monitor litter in Borough wide.

Cigarette butts, crisp packets, drink containers, newspapers, in fact, anything that is dropped, thrown, left or deposited that causes defacement in a public place. If you are caught littering - and this includes littering from a vehicle,  CBC works closely with the DVLA and can trace people who drop litter from their cars. Litter bins are available throughout the borough for you to place your rubbish in and if there are no bins available, please take your rubbish home with you.

Street Care Officers, Community Street Wardens, PCSO's, Park Rangers and Castle Park security staff are all empowered to issue fixed penalty notices for littering. These officers patrol the Borough on a daily basis and if you are witnessed littering you can expect to receive a £75 fixed penalty notice for this offence and if prosecuted in Court the maximum penalty on conviction is £2500.
