In addition to noise and light, the Environmental Control team can also help with nuisances caused by premises, accumulations, keeping animals, smoke, fumes and gases under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

A statutory 'nuisance' has to be significant and unreasonable in its nature, and affect you at your home in a significant and unreasonable way. Things that are merely an 'annoyance' or an 'eyesore', or only affect property, are not covered by nuisance law.

The Environmental Control team have to gather evidence to prove that the nuisance exists, and where we can, an abatement notice may be served to get something done about it.  Please bear in mind that nuisance actions can be time consuming and often lengthy operations.
