Garden set to stimulate the senses again this summer

Date issued: 5 February 2018

The Sensory Garden in Castle Park is set to blossom once again this summer, thanks to a new planting scheme by green-fingered volunteers.

The new garden, conceived by the Friends of Castle Park and landscape designer Christine Lavelle, will feature fresh displays of plants to stimulate the senses, including many scented varieties such as lavender and fragrant roses.

The Friends of Castle Park, Level Best and other volunteer groups will begin planting out the new Sensory Garden on 8 February -- completing a major refurbishment project that also includes new surfacing and entrances, repairs to walls, and the creation of a water feature.

Cllr Tina Bourne, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities, said: "This is an excellent community project -- one which will enable residents and visitors to enjoy improved access to the sights, textures and smells of many stunning new displays.

"I would like to thank all of our dedicated volunteers and partners for their continuing support, and for the excellent work they are undertaking to give the Sensory Garden a new life and attract even more visitors to Castle Park."
