Applications now welcome for second phase of Colchester Borough Council's Enterprise Skills and Employment Grant!

Applications are invited for funding currently available as part of the second round of the Colchester Borough Council's Enterprise Skills and Employment Grant for 2017/18.

Micro businesses (those with less than 10 employees) and not-for-profit organisations based in the Borough can apply for a share of the £38,000 funding. This is the first year that local micro businesses have been able to apply for grant funding for projects that will help them to develop and grow their business.

The Enterprise Skills and Employment Grant supports increased economic prosperity, enabling residents and businesses to develop new skills to help achieve their full potential and to support the creation of new jobs, new businesses and to help residents maximise their job opportunities through improving their skills base.

Previous beneficiaries of the grant include Colbea, Signpost Colchester and Space Studios. Among the benefits for Colchester residents from these grants was support for start-up businesses, training and employment opportunities for young people not in education employment and training, digital training opportunities, and advice and guidance on entering sustainable work.

Councillor Tim Young, Portfolio Holder for Business and Culture and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: "We are delighted to open applications for this second round of funding to give local people the chance to maximise their skills and business opportunities, which is key to remaining competitive in the current employment market.

"The first round of applications proved popular, demonstrating that small- to medium-sized businesses are a driving force in Colchester's economy. The Council is committed to finding ways to give these companies the confidence to invest and help create more skilled and long-term jobs in the Borough."

Applications for the grant can be submitted from Thursday 8 February.
