Visit Colchester returns to the Excursions Group Travel exhibition at Alexandra Palace in January 2018

Date issued: 22 January 2018

The Visit Colchester team will be taking their place among a plethora of other top tourism industry representatives at the Excursions Group Travel exhibition, at London's Alexandra Palace, on the 27 January 2018.

Excursions is the longest established national group travel trade show, bringing together some 300 exhibitors from the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe, and over 1000 group buyers and itinerary planners, all under one roof. Visit Colchester has been attending the annual show for over 20 years.

Group travel organisers can stop by the Visit Colchester stand EE14 at the Excursions exhibition and sign up to the group travel database, to be entered into a prize draw to win a Wilkin & Sons Ltd luxury hamper or a luxurious overnight stay at The George Hotel.

Colchester is well-known nationwide for its distinguished status as Britain's Oldest Recorded town, but there's so much more to explore and discover, both in the town itself and the surrounding area.

Colchester's varied architecture and vibrant history sits alongside a bustling and lively town centre with a visionary future, while on its doorstep you will find popular group destinations and attractions -- from the Dedham Vale in the heart of Constable County, to famous jam makers Wilkins and Sons Museum and Tea Rooms at Tiptree.

2018 sees the continuation of a two-year-long programme by Colchester Borough Council and Visit Colchester to promote Colchester and the surrounding area as a top-tier tourist destination. The campaign aims to increase visitor numbers, especially those making short stays and undertaking group travel. A short video showcasing all that the town has to offer to group travel organisers will also be showing on the video wall at Excursions.

Councillor Tim Young, Portfolio Holder for Business and Culture, said: "2017 was a fantastic year for tourism in Colchester, particularly with the launch of the 'If Our Walls Could Talk' campaign, demonstrating the continuing appetite of visitors to our town for wonderful history and cultural discoveries.

"We are looking forward to welcoming even more visitors to Colchester in 2018 for what promises to be another great year."

To stay up-to-date on all that Colchester has to offer, Visit Colchester would like to invite followers to its social media channels where they delve beneath the surface of the town by investigating what the walls of the town could tell them.
