New Digital Access Points launched in Leisure World and Old Health

Date issued: 15 December 2017

Two new Digital Access Points are launching in Old Heath and at Leisure World Colchester, making it easier than ever for residents to access online public services without needing to call.

Customers can use the Points to carry out online tasks such as applying for housing, accessing benefits and council tax services, reporting a missed bin collection and applying for a Blue Badge. A dedicated Police button provides a host of information and other services, from reporting non-emergency crimes to joining the police.

Convenient for gym users and visitors to the town centre, the Leisure World Point is located in the Welcome Zone reception area of the leisure centre in Cowdray Avenue, Colchester. Bakeoffee, a coffeehouse at 211 Old Heath Road, are hosting the Old Heath Point.

There are now four digital access points across the borough which residents can use to carry out errands. Earlier in 2017, Points were installed at the Langham Community Shop and Boxted Community Hub. Following their success, the Council plans to introduce more in 2018.

Cllr Beverley Oxford, Portfolio Holder for Customers, said: "Our customers' lives are busy, and we want to make accessing our services as convenient as possible. Modern technology means that self-service can be available anywhere, anytime, at the touch of a button, with no need to speak to an advisor.

"I am delighted that these digital access points have been taken up quickly by residents and that we are now able to offer them at two more locations."

The Leisure World Colchester Point was funded by Colchester Borough Council, whilst the unit in Old Heath was supported by Cllr Lee Scordis, Ward Member for Old Heath and the Hythe, through some of his locality budget.

Cllr Lee Scordis said: "After my ward colleagues and I saw this technology in action we thought this would be a great opportunity for Old Heath. This will make council and other services more accessible for all residents and also help a great local business."
