Leisure World gets in shape before New Year

Date published: 5 December 2017

Leisure World Colchester is continuing to invest in its facilities this December with a short programme of works.

New Year is one of the most popular times for leisure centres, with swathes of people committing to learn to swim or take up regular exercise as a resolution. To make sure their swim is as inspiring as possible, Leisure World is undergoing a spruce-up of its Fitness Pool changing and locker area this December.

New doors and locks will be installed on the 109 lockers available to swimmers, while the changing rooms and toilets will get a deep clean, fresh paint, minor repairs and new signage.

The works will begin on Monday 11 December and are expected to be complete by Sunday 17 December. During this time, the Fitness Pool changing rooms will be closed, but the pool will stay open. Clear signs will direct customers to the Leisure Pool changing rooms instead.

The Fitness Pool is Colchester's only 25-metre public pool, and alongside it sits a teaching pool and dive pit. Its home to the Leisure World Swim School and local school lessons, as well as specialist clubs who hire it for scuba, water polo, swim training and galas.

Cllr Annie Feltham, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Commercial Services, said: "The Council is committed to nurturing sports and leisure in Colchester by providing the best facilities possible.

"It's very important that we continue to invest in Leisure World so that members and visitors, including the 130,000 people who visit our Fitness pool, can make the most of the opportunities they offer. We hope everyone gets a great experience every time they visit."
