Speed-calming hump solution for St Mary's Car Park

Date published: 22 November 2017

Colchester Borough Council is installing new speed-calming humps on the top two floors of St Mary's Car Park to stop vehicle-related antisocial behaviour.

The car park will remain open for use during the works, which take place between 27 November and 5 December. A small number of spaces will be cordoned off whilst the speed-calming measures are installed.

As well as continuing to use the car park, shoppers, visitors and workers in Colchester on these days can take advantage of the great value parking available at other car parks if St Mary's is full.

Four hours parking after 9.30am for only £2.50 is available in Britannia car park.  Those staying longer can take advantage of all day parking in St John's or Middleborough car parks for only £3.50.

Temporary signage will advise motorists of the works and alternative parking locations.

Cllr Mike Lilley, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Public Safety and Licensing, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience while these works takes place. Spreading the works across a week will help to minimise disruption by keeping spaces available at all times. Visitors will still be able to take advantage of the great value parking on offer here and at our other car parks across the town."

"We are always working to ensure our car parks are as safe as possible. The works to install the speed-calming humps will take place next week and the Car Park will remain open throughout."
