Countryside events for October

Autumn has arrived in the park, take the opportunity to come visit the beautiful woodland at this lovely time of year. There are organised walks and events as well as activities you can do your selves, not to mention there are now Beat the Street Beat Boxes in some of our open spaces, if your savvy enough to find them!

Before you visit, why not download the High Woods Wildlife Trail app? It will add another dimension to any visit and was developed in association with the Colchester Natural History Society. It can be downloaded via Google Play.

High Woods Country Park Visitor Centre is open at weekends only now. Saturday and Sunday opening times: 10.00am - 4pm until April.

Sunday 8 October: Sunday Stroll at High Woods Country Park

11am - 12 pm

FREE

A three mile Ranger led walk through the Country Park on varying terrain. Sturdy footwear advisable. Meet at the Visitor Centre. Tea and coffee afterwards. No need to book. Tel 01206 853588 for more information.

 

Friday 13 October: Friday Health Walk at High Woods Country Park

11am - 12 pm

FREE

Led by trained Health Walk Leaders, an ideal way to improve fitness or mobility in a sociable atmosphere. The walk follows a one mile circuit which can be repeated for those who want to go a bit further. Meet at the Visitor Centre. Tea and coffee afterwards. No need to book. Saturday 14 October: The Magic World of Mushrooms at High Woods Country Park

10.30am - 12.30pm and 1.30pm - 2.30pm                    

Join fungi expert Sarah Manning on this stroll around High Woods Country Park discovering the fascinating mushrooms and toadstools that grow here. Meet at the Visitor Centre, just off of Turner Road. Booking is essential, £4.30 per person.

Wednesday 25 October: Awesome Autumn Adventure at High Woods Country Park

10am - 12pm                       

Autumn is the perfect time to take a closer look at trees. See how many different trees, seeds and leaves you can find on our tree trail and create a beautiful leaf mosaic. Suitable for ages 4+, meet at the Visitor Centre at 10am. Booking is essential, £4.30 per child (all children must be accompanied at all times).

Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 October: Halloween self-guided Fun Trail at High Woods Country Park

11am - 3pm             

Follow the map around the park and try to solve our Halloween puzzle. If you are in fancy dress you will get a sweet treat at the end! Collect your maps from the Visitor Centre for £1 per child anytime between 11am and 3pm.

 

Nordic Walking: Group sessions on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

High Woods Country Park

Nordic walking is a unique form of exercise that benefits everybody, from those with medical problems to the super fit. In partnership with Kardia Health and Wellbeing, High Woods has become the first Nordic Walking Park in England. There is also a 3 mile way-marked Nordic walking trail.
