Stanway Community Centre reopening marked with Macmillan charity fundraiser

Date published: 27 September 2017

Stanway's recently refurbished former Village Hall, renamed the Stanway Community Centre, will be formally re-opened this Friday, 29 September, from 2pm- 5pm, for a fundraising event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The £540,000 upgrade to the hall was funded by Colchester Borough Council, with Stanway Parish Council and Stanway Village Hall management team leading on the project.

The Centre has benefited from an upgraded lighting system, a new energy-efficient heating system, upgraded flooring, updated toilet facilities, and improvements to the external accessibility of the building.

Councillor Tina Bourne, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities, said: "This is the latest in a number of successful regeneration projects supported by Colchester Borough Council, which has seen the improvement of community assets throughout the Borough.

"The building is very well used, and this project will serve to enhance and extend the uses of the Centre for the wider needs of the local community."
