Get Online Week Events to Boost Online Skills and Knowledge

Date published: 27 September 2017

During national Get Online Week and national Customer Services Week, Colchester residents are being supported to improve their digital skills and knowledge enabling them to access online services at their own convenience making life easier, cheaper and more fun.

In the town centre and across the borough, free community learning, skills sessions and courses are taking place between Monday 2 and Friday 6 October 2017, with details available online on Colchester Borough Council's website at

The series of Get Online Week events begins with an Online Bazaar taking place at the Colchester Library and Community Hub on 2 October.  Anyone can drop in for help to set up their smartphone or tablet and for general advice to get online, with iPads and computers available for public use. You can even pop in for a chat about getting online and enjoy some free refreshments.

The Bazaar will also be a fantastic opportunity to find out about other Council services including Leisure World, registering to vote online, setting up an online account with us, as well as how to access what's on in the Borough and use Colchester's free Wi-Fi.

Once again, the Council is working with its partners, who are all committed to helping customers access services and improve their basic digital skills. Our banking partners, Lloyds, Barclays and HSBC, will also be participating if you need help with internet banking.

Events are on offer all week in communities across Colchester:

  • Monday 2 October, Community Hub at Colchester Library
  • Tuesday 3 October, St Barnabas Church Hall, Old Heath & West Mersea Library
  • Wednesday 4 October, Community 360, High Street, Colchester
  • Thursday 5 October, Boxted Community Hub & Langham Community Shop
  • Friday 6 October, Greenstead Community Centre

More information about these events and others taking place regularly across the borough is available at or on 01206 282222.

Colchester Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Customers, Councillor Beverley Oxford, said: "Get Online Week is a fantastic opportunity to access free events and resources to learn something new or improve your online skills and knowledge. Whatever your ability is, these events are hugely beneficial and will enable you to access and use a whole range of online services depending on your needs and interests."
