Green Flags are flying for Colchester's award-winning parks in the UK's People's Choice Award

Date published: 11 September 2017

You have the chance to vote for Castle Park and High Woods Country Park to be recognised as one of the nation's favourite in the annual People's Choice Awards.

Castle Park and High Woods Country Park have both been awarded Green Flag Awards this year, recognising them as two of the best parks in the UK, with 2017 being the 15th year that Castle Park has received this accolade, and the 14th year for High Woods.

The public can now choose their favourite park or green space to be named as Park of the Year, or be awarded a place in the Top Ten UK Parks.

Colchester Borough Council is now encouraging local people to back Castle Park and High Woods Country Park.

Cllr Tina Bourne, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities said: "It is wonderful that our beautiful parks have once again received Green Flag awards this year, reflecting the exceptional standard of our green spaces in Colchester. Castle Park and High Woods Country Park in their different ways are hugely popular destinations for local people and visitors, and I would urge Colcestrians to take this opportunity to vote for them in the People's Choice Award."

The annual People's Choice Award is now open!  To vote, simply go to www.greenflagaward.org, select Castle Park or High Woods Country Park on the interactive map, click on more details and click the 'vote for this site' button.

The vote will close at noon on 30 September and the ten most popular parks and green space in the UK will be announced in October.

All Green Flag Award-winning sites are entered into the annual People's Choice Award vote. Last year saw thousands of votes from the public, with Alexandra Palace Park crowned as the People's Choice.
