Visit Colchester Summer Selfie Winners Announced

With the summer drawing to an end Visit Colchester has now closed its summer selfie competition on Instagram. The competition, the first of the new tourism campaign If Our Walls Could Talk attracted a wide range of entries over the summer holidays all based around the building blocks of the town and wider Borough, its walls. Walls featured in the entries included Layer Marney Tower, Colchester Castle, families' favourite pubs plus many more. One special entry even came from Arnie the dog who was pictured sniffing out the historic ruins of St Botolph's Priory!

The winners have now all been contacted and prizes have been claimed.

Colchester has such a rich and vibrant history and the new campaign aims to encourage the public to think about what would the town's walls say if they could talk? Visit Colchester over the next year will embark on many marketing promotions to attract more tourists to the town and promote Colchester and the wider Borough as a key tourist destination in the East of England.

From the oldest and longest Roman Town Wall in Britain to the glittering gold curves of the town's 21st century Firstsite, Visit Colchester are encouraging visitors, residents and businesses of the town to get behind the campaign and support the Borough's heritage by sharing their experiences. Engage with the campaign on social media by using the hashtag #IfOurWallsCouldTalk and tagging Visit Colchester.

Cllr Tim Young, Deputy Leader of Colchester Council said,

"It was a pleasure to watch the public getting behind our fun selfie competition this summer. The Borough's walls are the building blocks of our communities and mean different things to different people, from a wedding at the Castle to a family enjoying quality time together at a local restaurant. The campaign is all about getting the public to think about the town's history and appreciate what the Borough has to offer."
