One Lucky Visit Colchester Winner Is Off To Neverland This Summer!

Date issued: 16 August 2017

Visit Colchester has chosen Sarah Conway's Instagram image as the first winner of the summer selfie competition celebrating the launch of the new tourism campaign If Our Walls Could Talk. The winning image taken by Sarah perfectly sums up the competition and features one of Colchester's finest walls and tourist attractions, Colchester Castle. Sarah has won tickets for the Mercury Theatre's summer show, Peter Pan, which is now on and running until 26 August.

If Our Walls Had Ears Peter Pan Winner

The new campaign, If Our Walls Could Talk, launched on the 24 July, and Visit Colchester will be sharing via social media the Borough's rich history by using the building blocks of the town: its walls. What could the walls of the largest surviving Norman keep in Europe tell us? What bloodshed has the walls of the Old Siege House seen or, indeed, how many marriage proposals have the restaurants in the Borough heard?

The campaign will feature stripped-back visuals focusing on the true beauty and history of the town, and will lead the public back through 2000 years of Colchester history.

It may be too late to win Peter Pan tickets, but there are still other prizes to be won. The competition will continue to run throughout the remainder of the summer holidays and will end on the 1 September 2017. Prizes still to be won include: afternoon tea for two at the Tiptree Tearooms at the Minories; a guided tour of Colchester's most famous walls, and an 'I Love Colchester' teddy bear. Simply head to Instagram and tag Visit Colchester in an image of one of the Borough's walls using the hashtag #IfOurWallsCouldTalk.

Councillor Tim Young, Deputy Leader of Colchester Council said: "The new campaign shines a spotlight on the building blocks of our town and wider Borough. Colchester has so much history to tell and this competition is making people think about the town they live in or are visiting and what great events have taken place before us.

"Congratulations to Sarah Conway. I hope she enjoys the show, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the entries that come in over the remainder of the summer."

Steve Mannix, Executive Director for the Mercury Theatre, added: "Huge congratulations to Sarah Conway for such a terrific photograph of Colchester Castle. We look forward to welcoming her at the Mercury Theatre and transporting her and her family to Neverland!"
