Snap a selfie and win prizes with Visit Colchester this summer!

Date issued: 31 July 2017

Visit Colchester is kicking off the summer holidays with a fantastic selfie competition on Instagram, which launches as part of its new tourism campaign If Our Walls Could Talk.

The new campaign, running from July 2017 - July 2018, will be showcasing the heritage and culture of Britain's oldest recorded town through the story of its many walls.

To celebrate, Visit Colchester is inviting the public to get out and about the Borough during the summer holidays and get selfie-taking! Visit Colchester wants to hear from as many people as possible, and as a reward will be putting all entries into a prize draw to win some fabulous prizes including afternoon tea at the Tiptree Tea Rooms at the Minories, Peter Pan tickets for the summer's headline show at the Mercury Theatre, a guided tour of Colchester's most famous walls, and some adorable I Love Colchester teddy bears!

Entering is easy: simply snap a selfie in front of a Colchester wall, upload it to a public Instagram account using the hashtag #IfOurWallsCouldTalk, not forgetting to like and tag Visit Colchester's own Instagram page.

But hurry! Entries close on 10 August for the Peter Pan tickets and 1 September for all other prizes. Examples could include wedding snaps, dinner at the Siege House where the walls still bear the scars of the Civil War Siege, a family day out at Firstsite or inside your luxury hotel room!

Cllr Tim Young, Deputy Leader of Colchester Borough Council said: "I'd love to know what so many walls in Colchester have to say, from the walls of the town hall where I spend a lot of time to the walls of Colchester Castle. Colchester as Britain's oldest recorded town is a fascinating place and we are privileged to have so much history and heritage on our doorstep.

"We want to hear what your stories are though! So get snapping and share your selfies with us and win some great prizes. Remember you don't have long so get the children out and about during the holidays and let's all share in what an amazing place Colchester and the wider Borough is."

With the summer holidays now in full swing, remember that the friendly Visitor Information Centre team based at Hollytrees Museum, in Castle Park, are happy to help plan family days out and children's activities for the extended summer break. If you don't already, make sure you are following Visit Colchester's social media feeds to keep up to date on what is happening across the Borough over the next few months.
