High Woods Country Park retains its Green Flag status

Date issued: 26 July 2017

High Woods Country Park is celebrating, once again, after achieving Green Flag status for the thirteenth consecutive year.

The Green Flag Award, which was announced on July 18, is the benchmark national standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom, and is presented by Keep Britain Tidy which administers the scheme on behalf of the Government.

Judges look at continuous improvements made over the past year, focusing on eight key areas:

  • How welcoming the park is
  • How 'healthy safe and secure' the park is
  • How well-maintained and clean the park is
  • Sustainability
  • Conservation and heritage
  • Community involvement
  • Marketing
  • Management

Councillor Tina Bourne, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities, said: "This is fantastic news and immensely well-deserved.

"I would really like to thank staff, the Colchester Countryside Volunteer Rangers and other community and user groups for their hard work and support over the past year. A Green Flag Award is never guaranteed, so to win thirteen years in a row is an amazing testament to the exceptionally high standard of care that goes into maintaining the park as one of the Borough's premier attractions."
