Results of Colchester's Big Choice 2016

50 great ideas, projects and initiatives were originally received. They were shortlisted to 12 finalists that then went head to head to win enough votes to receive a share of the funding pot.

The winners were selected after thousands of votes were cast by the residents of Colchester between 22nd February and 4th March 2016.

A total of £200,000 was be shared among the winning projects after they were announced at an awards ceremony at the Town Hall on 9th March 2016.

A total of 4515 votes were received and we would like to congratulate the winners. The split was as follows:

Colchester Arts Centre

'Colchester Scavengers' project - part game show, part fine arts, and a performance. Takes the form of a community treasure hunt made up of 50 teams and will result in a major exhibition which will be seen by 12,000 people.


Beacon House

Tackling homelessness and substance abusers, empowering them to break cycles of negative behaviours, reducing pressures on other community services.


Peldon Village Hall

Rebuilding of the village hall, securing the future of a growing community and accommodate larger activities.


St. Helena Hospice

Extending the reach of the Hospice Service by recruiting Hospice Volunteers neighbours. Extra support to primary home carers will relieve their burden and provide much needed respite.


Colchester Institute

Creation of a sensory garden and outdoor learning environment on campus, available to the wider community. 


Wivenhoe Youth Football Club

Improving facilities for younger people by increasing participation in sport and replacing the playing surface at Philip Road.
