Public realm

TS Colne lighthouse ship Alongside new building developments that have helped to improve the public spaces in the area, art projects and community clean up events have also helped to improve the environment in East Colchester. The transformation of the former port into an attractive mixed-use sustainable community has brought together a number of groups including developers, artists, residents, youth groups and schools, local organisations such as the Sea Cadets and Moors Movement and most recently Hythe Forward, a Community Land Trust, to begin to create a vibrant area reflecting the diverse population and areas that make up East Colchester.

The Town to Port Trail is a new trail featuring artworks and information on the area's history.  As part of this project the former Hythe Bridge, next to Hythe Station, has been transformed into a community space with seating, planters and activity area.
