Walking and cycling

Stadium Green Way

As well as constructing new roads in North Colchester, new green links for pedestrians and cyclists will also be created.

A Green Way, which will provide a link between High Woods and the Weston Homes Community Stadium and eventually to the new Severalls residential site  has already being created with volunteers planting 1250 trees during National Tree Week.

Cycle route improvement

The High Woods route will run from the Weston Homes Community Stadium through Highwoods estate and the Country Park to Colchester North railway station and the town centre.

The improvements to much of the route will offer real benefits not only to cyclists but also people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs.

As the Brinkley Lane stretch is lined by trees, great care has been taken to make sure that the materials used will not interfere with the root system.

Work will soon start on improvements to the part of the path which runs through the Country Park. A lot of thought has gone into choosing the right surfacing to make sure it is tough enough to withstand use by farm vehicles that pass through the country park, while also blending in with the natural landscape.

The project team are also looking at whether it will be possible to use solar powered studs to light the pathway through the Country Park.
