Colchester town centre traffic improvements

In March 2013 Essex County Council implemented a new traffic scheme reducing the traffic in the heart of Colchester town centre, with support from Colchester Borough Council.

The improvements were not all related to the town centre, but the schemes are linked enabling the Park and Ride scheme to be delivered in Spring 2015:

  • The first part has seen the Bus Station relocate to Osborne Street/Stanwell Street. The second part was to introduce bus lanes in the town centre under 18-month experimental traffic regulation orders (TRO)
  • Work is currently underway to link the Northern Approach Road with A12 junction 28 and the future Park and Ride at Cuckoo Farm. This key link is due to be completed this December.
  • The final stage will see the delivery of Colchester's first purpose-built Park & Ride  located to the north of the A12 junction 28, at Cuckoo Farm in March 2015.

Following a period of review during 2013 a revised town centre traffic scheme was introduced in October 2013.

All town centre car parks are accessible and offer great value for money for short and long stay visits.

Blue badge holders can still benefit from blue badge parking areas across town centre locations, where appropriate.
