St. Botolph's Priory

St Botolph's ruins

Although the St Botolph's priory is of national importance it is often an area that is overlooked by residents and visitors to Colchester. As part of a wider project to improve the public realm in St Botolph's churchyard and the grounds around the Priory have been improved to to encourage more people to experience this important part of the town's heritage.

After an initial survey of the area and, using feedback gathered from the public about how the area was currently used, a range of proposed improvements were made with Haven Gateway Partnership funding by Essex based landscape architects and urban designers Liz Lake.

The improvements included new access routes, changes to existing routes, creation of new activity spaces, landscaping works along with new seating .
