Older People's Forum

The Older People's Forum was established in 2009, made up of Agencies who are working to improve the lives of older people and chaired by Councillor Tina Bourne.  It has clear goals for its work including: 

  • tackling pensioner poverty 
  • increasing availability of transport
  • engagement with and empowering older people

Here's some information about some of the key agencies tat attend Older People's Forum meetings;

The Lion Walk Activity Centre in the heart of Colchester Town provides entertainment, activities, heath and beauty care, along with delicious and nutritional meals at a very reasonable cost. Please contact Kelly on 01206 282578 or for more information.

Age UK Colchester assists older people living in the Borough to claim benefits including Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Pension Credit and Housing and Council Tax Benefit.  Age UK also provides an advocacy service to assist older people with problems in overcoming difficulties in accessing social care, NHS and housing services.  Advisors can also support older people with debt problems and consumer issues.  The phone number is 01206 368420.  Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.  There is an answering machine for out of hours.  The address is 6 George Street, right around the corner from The George and opposite their parking lot.

The Citizens Advice Bureau in Colchester is also ready with advice on all aspects of benefits including Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance and Disability Living Allowance.  Please call them on 08444 770808 daily from 9.30 - 4pm or drop in from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
