The Council's Strategic Plan

Date Published: 4 August 2008

Welcome to Colchester Borough Council's Strategic Plan 2006-09. This Plan was published in March 2006. Our Strategic Plan is the council's most important document because it says what we will do to help Colchester become a prestigious regional centre. It commits us to making sure that providing top quality day-to-day services and excellent service remain at the very heart of what we do.

The Council has three corporate objectives:

  • to promote economic prosperity, tackle deprivation and foster social inclusion
  • to ensure the quality of life expected of a prestigious regional centre
  • to be the cleanest and greenest borough in the country.

These objectives direct all services to tackle key issues for the borough.

They reflect local residents’ priorities, and we will continue to listen to what you have to say about what matters to you and your community.

For more information read the full strategic plan.

The Strategic Plan has an Action Plan to go with it.  This Action Plan is a high level interpretation of key aims and outcomes which will make a real difference in achieving the Strategic Plan.

The Action Plan was agreed in April 2006. It is regularly reviewed by the Strategic Overview and Scrutiny Panel, to monitor progress being made in achieving our aims. The first review was completed in September 2006 and the Action Plan with "traffic light" updates is shown below.

The council prepares and 'equality impact assessment' of policies, procedures and practices which have an impact on local people. This is part of the council's committment to equality and diversity

Residents were asked for their views about the most important things in making somewhere a good place to live, and about council services.
